UPCOMING THEMES 2026

Spatial Design for Future Cities: Balancing Density and Humanity

As urban populations continue to grow, cities are becoming denser than ever. This session explores how architects and planners can design high-density environments that still prioritize human well-being. How do we create livable, walkable, and emotionally enriching spaces in cities where land is limited and vertical expansion is inevitable? The discussion will include case studies of innovative urban housing, public space planning, and community-centered design approaches that balance efficiency with empathy.

Urban Renewal and Strategies for Revitalizing Historic Buildings

In many cities, aging infrastructure and underused historic buildings offer both challenges and opportunities. This topic investigates the strategies behind successful urban renewal—from adaptive reuse to preservation with a modern twist. How can we breathe new life into old structures without erasing their cultural identity? Industry experts will share insights on legal, technical, and creative considerations in transforming the past into functional, inspiring spaces for the present and future.

The 15-Minute City: Possibilities and Challenges in Planning Ideal Living Circles

The “15-Minute City” is a visionary urban concept where all essential needs—work, education, health care, and leisure—are accessible within a 15-minute walk or bike ride. But how feasible is this model across different urban contexts? This session examines the potential of this planning paradigm to create more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive cities, while also addressing challenges such as zoning limitations, transportation equity, and mixed-use development.

Barrier-Free Design and Senior-Friendly Architecture in an Aging Society

With global populations aging rapidly, inclusive design is more important than ever. This session explores how architecture can create environments that are not only physically accessible, but also emotionally empowering for elderly users. From residential buildings and healthcare facilities to public spaces, we’ll discuss universal design principles, new technologies, and policies that support aging in place while maintaining dignity, independence, and community connection.

How Can Architecture Respond to Climate Change and Environmental Resilience?

Climate change is no longer a distant threat—it’s a design imperative. This session focuses on how architecture can mitigate environmental impact and build resilience in the face of extreme weather, rising temperatures, and resource scarcity. Topics include passive design strategies, climate-adaptive materials, net-zero buildings, and the integration of natural systems into urban environments. The goal is to explore how built environments can become part of the solution, not the problem.
